Senior citizens in the U.S. are being subjected to a year-end barrage of callers trying to get them to change their Medicare health plans for the new year. That's bad enough.

But the Medicare ID number is usually a person's social security number. It's a situation ripe for scammers to call people posing as telemarketers for familiar local health plans and steal identities.

What is wrong with health plan marketers that they would consider using cold calling to sign people up?

If you know anyone who is a Medicare/Social Security recipient, help them get on the FTC Do Not Call Registry: https://www.donotcall.gov/
And warn them not to give any information to someone if they didn't initiate the call themselves.
