Yahoo Groups redirection abuse

During August 2010, Yahoo has come under a redirection abuse attack by the purveyors of Canadian Pharmacy. This is a fraud operation, and is as Canadian as caviar. There is no doubt that this operation stems from Russia. The evidence leads to one particular criminal in particular, who has been unmasked and publicly revealed as Igor Gusev.

Evidence about this pharmacy fraud exists all over the Internet. One location is the crime sheet at spamtrackers.eu -
>> http://spamtrackers.eu/wiki/index.php/Canadian_Pharmacy <<

It is a shame to see YAHOO! being so slow to act to curb ˙this abuse. One spam research organization that runs a honey-pot to trap spam has detected over ˙7,300 cases of distinct URLs from yah...

For some months, the free image hosting service at http://imageshack.us was reeling from a massive attack from spammers. This was not a DDoS style of attack though. It was a concerted abuse of their terms of service.

Spammers uploaded tens of thousands of images promoting the Canadian Pharmacy fraud sites that is the most prevalent scam on the Internet today. It is thought to be owned by one "Igor Gusev" - a Russian, who has been accused of being the criminal behind this fraud by Russian Newsweek. He has subsequently taken court action against the newspaper, its editor, and reporters for slander.  One of the other operatives has been identified as &qu...

In the last quarter of 2009 Livejournal.com was the target of a "redirection abuse" attack. These attacks are common with free service providers, such as Microsoft (spaces.live.com) and Google (blogspot.com).

This week, a new attack has begun. To stop such attacks, free hosting providers need to be vigilant, and as soon as their service becomes abused, they need to root out the abuses rapidly. Otherwise the spammers will be emboldened by their success, and the abuse will escalate to an alarming rate.

Livejournal.com is not new to this problem; they have faced it before and sent the attackers packing. It is time to act again. Remember, a list of spammed livejournal.com sites is publicly available, thanks to the valuabl...

An updated list of signatures that Microsoft should use to remove over 90% of redirection abuse attacks in spaces.live.com. It is a simple task to search every spaces.live.com front page, locate a match to one of the signatures, and remove every one that matches.
