Here's a rather new service that you can forward your spam to. They claim to have a very good process of shutting down spammers and have shut down over 15.000 sites.
http://knujon.com/
Some members are reporting reduced spam levels in their inboxes.

Well, the figures at Knujon's home-page looked tempting, so I decided to give it a try, as an addition to SpamCop.net. But, when I wanted to register, I read the following text in the PRIVACY STATEMENT:
"Knujon.com may require the use of email addresses for the purpose removing those email addresses from databases and lists, but only for this purpose...".
Thanks, but no. I prefer the use of MarkGiles' Complainterator to try to have spammer's sources blocked, tools like that provided by spamislame to frustrate spammers to the point of whining ("You are kiillllling-a my bizinisss!"), above a service that uses my reports to have my address white-washed.
I noticed that there are even plug-ins available for reporting to Knujon in Thunderbird, so I guess that Knujon is a legitimate site. Still, the white-washing concept is imho unacceptable. Spammers like Polyakov probably will love this idea. See his pathetic plea to "Darren": http://www.spamhaus.org/rokso/evidence.lasso?rokso_id=ROK6166. I wouldn't be surprised to see new 'spam-fighting'-sites emerge, operating solely on this white-washing concept, initiated by a P. Gregory or G. William .
No offense to Cybe meant: new members should feel welcome to post, and as a newbie here myself, I certainly wouldn't want to discourage others. For sure if one doesn't have much time to trace, report and bug spammers, sites like Knujon may help to reduce some spam.
I am looking forward to comments from more seasoned spam-fighters.
Guess that Knujon stands for something like "Knut Johansson", or a similar name from a Scandinavian country. However, as it is running a 'global' anti-spam site, which seems to aim to compete/complement SpamCop.net, I am a bit puzzled by the many flaws in English language. In above quoted text only 1 preposition is missing. In other info/terms on Knujon's site there are many of such omissions . Being myself a N.W.-European in whom's language such omission do not occur, I wonder if any member here knows if such omissions are common in Scandinavian or rather in languages like Russian.... |

Knujon is very legitimate, and was conceived after the Blue Security attacks.
There is no need to adopt a mentality of "this spam fighting method is better than that method"
Each has an angle, each is effective in its way. Where one method may have weaknesses, the other may have strengths.

Read the word backwards to derive its origins.

I believe in using everything possible in the hope that one of them, Spamcop, knujon or complainerator hits the right spot!
They all have their downsides.
Knujon has the advantage of being quick to use. Forward your spam mails to an address and forget about it, but not sure that everything gets actioned. (see below)
Spamcop is a bit slower (getting hold of the mail headers in Outlook) and has a built in delay unless you pay for the service. I have tried the mail forwarding feature but I either find next time I go in (several days later) that I have to confirm them online and it is beyond threir reporting window or they disappear into the ether.
Complainerator ties up the PC while it runs.
I normally send everything to Knujon, run complainerator on days when I have time and report to spamcop if I still have time.
Just had a report from knujon - KnujOn has been initially focused on the macro side of the problem: collecting massive amounts of data and using it target the greatest number of sites and viewing collections of sites as organizations. This approach has yielded the large number of shutdowns we see but has also allowed a number of sites to fall through the cracks. Many of these sites are what we call super sites. They endure, they pop-up again quickly after being shutdown, and in some cases we have received false (temporary) confirmation that they were suspended.
We now have an enormous amount of data and know exactly which sites are responsible for the most instances for our clients. This week we’re launching a program that will target and expose the most active spam sites in our records. We are starting with number 1 and working backwards. We’re starting with one site, an Internet pharmacy that has the highest number of incidences for our clients.
This first site is mantipu.com which I dont think I have received but which has four people on the front who look like the British entry to the Eurovision song contest out of uniform!
Could take a while if they are targetting sites one at a time! |
