I copy all spam mails received to Spamcop - http://www.spamcop.net

I dont have time to personally analyse each spam mail (life is too short), so I need to use an automated method.

Its a little long winded in that I have to open the mail headers in Outlook and paste them in seperately to the body but it does seem to pick up the origin for the emails.

The cut and paste of the body of the mail loses some of the links to the website depending on how they link to it.

Not sure how effective or accurate it is. Any views?

I'm not sure how it would be in Outlook--I use Apple Mail, and there is a menu for viewing "Raw Message Source."  This shows the entire raw text of the e-mail--the way it arrives to the server, pre-decoded.  Probably the most effective for sending to places like SpamCop, law enforcement, etc.

And you're right--with the way alot of spam mail is encoded, the simple cut & paste method often loses some of the original attributes.  I hope there's an option in Outlook for viewing Raw Message Source.  If not, try looking at using a different e-mail client, that might support that option.

I must admit, I do cheat a bitto get around losing urls. I do a "view source" and paste in any urls that have got lost in cutting and pasting the message as text. Spamcop then normally picks them up. It might make the message slightly innaccurate, but at least the complaint gets to more relevant people.

You used to have to (and still can) forward mails to Spamcop, but I find that they take a time to be processed doing it that way and by the time I get round to do the final submission, they have gone over Spamcops 48hr limit.

I use a commercial program called Mailwasher Pro.  It lets you view emails that are sitting on your email server.  It shows a number of checkboxes next to each email.  One is to report it to SpamCop, another to delete the email from the server.

With a few clicks, you can report spam to SpamCop and delete it from the email server so you don't have to waste time and bandwidth downloading them.

I'm not associated with the creators FireTrust, just a happy customer.  Here's a link...

As I said in an earlier posting, I normally report spam emails using spamcop - http://www.spamcop.net.

By accident I typed http://www.spamcop.com and got a different spamcop which tells you who to report spam to.

I have tried entering the same spam email into both and they report to different people. I am now confused. Is one of them producing wrong results or do they report to a different type of person?

E.G. Using the following spam mail I received -

Received: from smtp298.inetc.net ([81.27.97.118]) by smtp534.inetc.net with MailEnable ESMTP; Fri, 29 Sep 2006 16:56:59 +0100
Received: from SpeedTouch.lan ([83.8.242.82]) by smtp298.inetc.net with MailEnable ESMTP; Fri, 29 Sep 2006 16:56:54 +0100

A. Don't trust Spamcop.com.  Others will tell you why.

B. To answer the earlier posts, use OLSpamCop.  It will save you tons of time and mousing.
