This number has been showing up on my Caller ID about 6 times between 5/23 & 6/9/06. Once or twice I've picked up with no answer at the other end. Finally got someone to respond the last time they called. Someone with a thick Indian accent trying to sell me a "Free Sprint Wireless Cell Phone Promotion." I managed to get to a "manager" (also with a thick Indian accent), who kept trying to convince me that this offer was a VERY special one to a few select people in my area, despite me telling him it is illegal to call people on the Do Not Call list. He continued his best to convince me of this "offer" despite my verbal thrashing of him for trying to fraud people, and pull one over on me. When prompted, he told me his name was Joe Rogers, and his company was in Orlando, FL. I doubt either is true, as 718 area code is New York. After a Google search, it appears others have heard from this number, too. It is listed on this website: http://www.my-multimedia.com/contact_us.htm
Rather peculiar, since calling this number gets you an operator stating the VoIP customer is disconnected from the internet. Could be a forged Call ID, but that doesn't explain why a non-functioning number is listed on this web site.
Hopefully, others searching for this number will have more information on who these people are. |

I haven't received any more calls from that number since they actually talked to me--and they were calling at least once a day until they finally reached me. From what I know, telemarketers auto-dial a barrage of numbers, and whomever answers first gets directed to an operator until all operators are busy. This is why often you'll pick up a call and hear nothing or get disconnected--it happened to me about 4 times before I was finally fast enough to "make their que." I'm also on the Do-Not-Call list, so it's completely illegal for them to call me at all. I tried calling Sprint, since they touted it was a "free promotion to a select few for a Sprint phone" but got nowhere fast. My guess is it has nothing directly to do with Sprint. I found it interesting that the guy let me barrage him for awhile on the phone about him trying to scam me--they usually just hang up fast. |

Thanks for the info, guys.
I've been getting calls from that damn number for about the last week, and damn near every single one of them has woken me up (I'm a night owl)!
Just dropped an email to them explaining that, even though they're an Indian company, they do business in the USA and are therefore subject to the TCPA, and that, if the calls did not stop forthwith, they would be hearing from my lawyer, seeking compensation.
It's a bluff (I don't even have a lawyer), but it might just be enough to get them to stop calling without having to listen to their spiel first... |
